How much does a 30x40 building cost?
While we could give you a rough number, it really doesn't take into account everything on a steel structure. For instance, if we provided a square foot cost, that doesn't take into account the height of the building. Even just a rough estimate can't account for your location wind, snow and seismic loads. Not to mention shipping and tax which all contribute to your bottom line. What are you responsible for?
While the kit comes with everything you need for the building, there are still some items that you need to address.
- Verification of local code requirements along with wind and snow loads - While our software pulls up general requirements for a zip code, local municipalities can easily dictate greater load requirements. When working with customers on a nationwide basis, it is nearly impossible for us to know these requirements for any specific location.
- Local permits and inspections - Talking to your local building permit office will give you the info you need in terms of obtaining your permits to build as well as the requirements for the various inspections you may need to obtain your C.O. (certificate of occupancy)
- Concrete - A pre-engineered metal building requires a solid foundation to support the wind, snow and overall loads. We only provide the steel building kit so you will need to contract with a local company to pour your footers, piers and slab.
- Anchor bolts - Anchor bolts are part of the foundation and should be supplied by your local concrete contractor. While the structural engineer designing your building may provide the diameter of the anchor bolt, your location is what determines the length. Southern states don't have to worry about a frost line whereas norther states may see 24", 36" or even deeper frost lines. Your local codes may specify this need.
- Equipment to offload delivery truck - Your metal building package comes loaded on a flatbed semi truck. The driver has no equipment to offload your truck, so you should make arrangements to have a forklift or lull to unload.
- Labor to erect - We only sell the steel building kit - we are not general contractors and don't get involved in the labor to erect. You will need to find a local company to erect your building.
- Equipment for erecting - If you contract a local erecting company, they should have the equipment necessary to do so. If you are wanting to do it yourself, a variety of equipment from a forklift or lull, to ladders, drills, saws, levels and cutters may be needed.

Can I put up a 30x40 steel building myself?

A handy do-it-yourself person could certainly construct a steel building. The kit comes with everything you need to put up your building. The real question is more of a value of your time. While he have has some customer erect their own buildings, they typically take 3-4 times longer than an experience crew. What's your time worth to you?

Does the price include concrete and erect?
A
We are a nationwide building distributor only. We are not general contractors so we cannot provide services for concrete and erect. You are best served using a local company for concrete and labor to put up your building. Depending on your location, we may be able to put you in touch with local companies that other customers have used.

How soon can I get my building?
A
Just a few years ago, the common answer was 6-8 weeks. Those time frames have increased and fluctuated wildly over the last few years. Lead times range from 12-20 weeks depending on complexity. While that may seem like a long time, we often hear of customers having trouble getting their dirt work and foundation/slab poured in that time frame. Lead times continue to fluctuate depending on supply channel constraints, demand on raw steel materials and a variety of other logistical issues facing steel building manufacturers.
What makes a Renegade Steel Building Different?
PBR panels standard
“PBR” stands for Purlin Bearing Rib. While others may use a standard panel, Renegade uses the “PBR” panel on the roof and walls of our buildings. This gives the system rigidity and weathertightness. Other profiles are available with the purlin bearing system.
Long Life Screws
Renegade’s long-life, self drilling fasteners are cast aluminum zinc with a EPDM sealing washer help enforce the finish warranties and ensure a long lasting, rust free building. We include these on both the roof and walls.
Formed Base Trim
The base of our buildings uses formed base trim. This heavier gauge, one piece system installs quicker and reduces the possibility of problems seen with 2 piece systems as well as supporting your manufacturers warranty on wall panels.
Factory Welded Clips
Clips for the roof purlins and wall girts are factory located and welded saving you time when erecting your building.
Framed Openings
One other BIG difference in a Renegade building is that whenever a customer wants a window, we always include a framed opening. This provides a sturdy and secure structure for the window to attach to. It also provides a better fit for weather tightness. Other companies may take the cheap approach and just sell a window that simply screws into the wall panel.
