3 ways to make your steel building more affordable

When considering a building, there are ways to make your steel building more affordable.  Part of the discussions we have with potential customers relates to how they want their building designed.  While we understand the desire to have lots of roll up doors, for instance, to utilize every square foot of space in a building, it may increase your cost due to engineering requirements.  With that in mind, we have 3 ways to make your steel building more affordable.

    Bracing

Leave space for bracing.  Like the example described above, if you fill each wall up with doors and windows, we still have to find ways to brace your building.  The most economical way to brace is with X-bracing.  There are other options available, but they require more steel and sometimes more concrete.  Steel building bracing is an important part of you building, so be sure to discuss your design with one of our project managers.

    Options

There are a variety of ways to customize your steel building, but some of the options can be more costly than others.  Wainscot, for instance, is a relatively inexpensive option to dress up a building.  Many people choose to use an accent color on their wainscot to help change the look of their steel building.  A more expensive option is to do extensions around the roof.  This indeed makes a building look good, but it does come at a cost.  In fact, this is probably the most expensive of the options we can do.

    Finalize your plans

One thing that can really affect the cost of a building is change orders.  You see, when you place a production order for a building all of the costs get locked in.  If you need to make a change after the fact, you may incur any price increases as well as any engineering fees and material costs.  Common reasons for making changes can be zoning issues that change the size of a building and local wind and snow loads.  This is why we always encourage our customers to check with their local permit office to make sure they know what is required for them to have a steel building.  It is much easier and cost effective to verify this before you purchase than to have to do a change order after the fact.
